CHCS Academic Varsity Team Finishes 6th at State

The College Heights Christian School High School Varsity Academic Team finished 6th in Class 2 at the State Tournament defeating the 13-year state champion, Richland, at the Missouri State High School Academics Association state competition.   The team competed in eight tournaments and ended with a 35/16 record.  They also placed second in the Spring River Valley Conference Tournament, first in Districts and won the Sectionals competition.  While competing at the MSU Bear Bowl, the team placed 5th and at NEO placed 3rd.  Students meet as a team weekly during lunch throughout the school year.  The team owes their success not only to practice, but also to the dedication of the students on the team and to an excellent education the students receive at College Heights.

The varsity team is:  Mark Stanley (captain & high scorer), David Calandro, Laura Szczepanik, Taylor Little and Blake Roberts (high scorer).

The team was coached by Mrs. Jean Miller, with Mrs. Charmagne Stanley assisting; both are instructors at CHCS.

Two CHCS Students Attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp

Hannah Braeckel and Zach Wilkins, Juniors, attended the 20th Annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp, which was held in Talequah, Oklahoma, on April 22-25th.  They were selected based on their display of leadership characteristics for bright leaders. While at the camp, they received leadership training and hands-on activities to challenge and train them for the future.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. RYLA participants in District 6110 is focused on class leaders who are currently in their junior (11th grade) year of high school. They were selected through an application process.

Where is the Gingerbread Man?

Mrs. Tahhan's class spent time making a gingerbread man, but where did he go? The students searched the entire building stopping by the offices and classrooms trying to find the Gingerbread Man. The activity included measuring ingredients to use math skills, sharing and taking turns, talking about colors, reasoning, and logic as they searched the building for the Gingerbread Man. Everyone had a great time participating in this fun activity as well as eating the Gingerbread Man so he couldn't run away again!

Third Graders Learn About Worms

Third grade students had a great time learning about worms while concluding their science unit of "Exploring the World of Invertebrates." Invertebrates are usually small animals with soft bodies. The students were able to use all their sensory skills - touch, smell, hear, sight and even taste as they ate gummy worms at the end of class!

CHCS Athletes Honored for High Academic Marks

The Missouri High School Activities Association recognizes athletes for their academic accomplishments by awarding two scholastic team awards: The Outstanding Scholastic Award and the Distinguished Scholastic Award. We are pleased to announce that the Girls Basketball Team received the Outstanding Scholastic Award and the Boys Basketball Team received the Distinguished Scholastic Award. The awards are computed by the team's grade point average for the semester and are given to athletic teams as well as Music and Speech. The team to be recognized with the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award must carry a 3.25-4.0 grade point average while the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Award must carry a 3.0-3.24 grade point average.

We are proud of our athletes as they prove themselves academically and athletically. It takes dedication on their part to be successful in all areas.
