SORRICK SELECTED TO ATTEND MISSOURI FINE ARTS ACADEMY

Lea Sorrick, a College Heights Christian School Junior, has been selected to attend the Missouri Fine Arts Academy, which will be held on the campus of Missouri State University.  This is the state’s foremost program in fine arts education for high school students.  Sorrick is one of only 200 students across Missouri to be invited to attend and be part of the 2009 Academy class. Sorrick was admitted through an application process and based on her merit in her fine art portfolio.

The Academy is made possible through funds appropriated by the Missouri General Assembly and was established to provide enrichment opportunities which may differ significantly from those provided in the more traditional high school programs. Sorrick will represent College Heights Christian School and Joplin.

Lea is the daughter of Dr. William and Elina Sorrick of Joplin.

EMERY APPOINTED TO UNITED STATES
AIR FORCE ACADEMY CLASS OF 2013

Paul Emery, a College Heights Christian School Senior, has been appointed to attend the United States Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a member of the class of 2013.  This is a rare opportunity to participate in one of the country’s finest officer training programs with a very select group of the nation’s finest young people.  The appointment was awarded to only about 1,500 of the 9,200 applicants.  It is equivalent to a scholarship valued at $403,000.

Emery’s previous accomplishments showed his excellence academically, socially, and physically and indicated his potential to meet the demands and challenges of the Academy.  The qualifications are based on a whole person score which include the student's GPA, ACT score, character references, service and leadership.  The applications must be appointed by a prominent member of congress. Paul is scheduled to leave in June for basic training and then will begin school in the fall.

Paul is the son of Ed and Rebecca Emery of Lamar.
