SEMI FINALIST IN THE 2009 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR PROGRAM
College Heights Christian School announced that Senior Rachel
Calandro has been named a Semi-Finalist in the 2009 National Merit
Scholarship Program. She placed among the top one percent of more
than 1.5 million students who took the PSAT. Miss Calandro will
anticipate the announcement of the Finalist to be made later this
school year.
“Miss Calandro is a scholastically talented senior and is recognized
for her outstanding academic potential by her strong performance in
this highly competitive program. The key role played by College
Heights Christian School in Miss Calandro’s development is essential
to the pursuit of educational excellence,” commented a spokesperson
for National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “We hope that this
recognition will enhance her educational opportunities and that she
will continue to diligently pursue her professional goals.”
Rachel Calandro is the daughter of Christopher and Theresa Calandro
of Joplin.
College Heights Christian School was started in 1978 with
approximately 80 students. Today, CHCS has grown to nearly 600
students per year, set in a 140,000 square foot facility that
includes 41 classrooms, representing 90 different churches in the
4-State area with nearly 700 total graduates over the past 30 years.
Both elementary and secondary programs are accredited by North
Central Association (NCA). CHCS participates in MSHSAA Athletics,
Academics and Fine Arts.
